Apple officially released the iPhone Duo for sale at its retail locations worldwide on Friday, October 23, 2026, marking the commercial debut of the company's first foldable device. In a statement issued that morning, the company confirmed that stores were crowded with customers eager to handle the new hardware. Staff provided demonstrations and assisted with purchases as the rollout commenced across international markets.

The company's release included photographs gathered from Apple Store locations around the globe. Additionally, readers of this publication submitted images from their own local branches. Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, attended the launch event at the Fifth Avenue store in New York City. He was joined by retail executive Vanessa Trigub for the occasion.

Apple's chief executive, John Ternus, marked the day in Austin, Texas, at the Apple's Domain NORTHSIDE location. He appeared alongside Deirdre O'Brien, the company's retail chief. Reports indicate Ternus toured the company's Austin facilities earlier this week. His presence in the city coincides with the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix taking place this weekend, where Apple serves as the exclusive streamer of the race in the United States.

Queues began forming at Apple retail stores overnight, with shoppers waiting to purchase an iPhone Duo without a prior appointment. However, those hoping to buy on the spot encountered obstacles. Apple had previously issued a warning regarding stock levels, stating that inventory for walk-in customers would be limited. Reports from the ground appear to confirm that assessment.

Store employees advised shoppers who were unable to purchase a device to consult the Apple Store app for future stock updates. Specifically, workers told disappointed customers to check the application tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET for details regarding in-store inventory. No information was provided regarding when additional units would become available for immediate purchase.
